How do you feel about dentistry? If the thought of visiting the dentist makes you nervous, or if your intense dental phobia has kept you from the dental care you need, talk with Dr. Tabor about sedation dentistry. We offer nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral sedation, and IV sedation for optimal peace of mind and body. Sedation dentistry will allow you to enter a relaxed state; the level of your relaxation will depend upon the type of sedation you choose.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas) – Nitrous oxide is administered through a facemask. We will control the amount of gas you receive during your procedure. You will stay awake but feel relaxed, comfortable, and groggy. The ability to feel pain and anxiety will be repressed while you are breathing nitrous oxide. After your procedure, you will immediately recover from the sedating effects and can continue with your regular daily routine.
Oral Sedation – Dr. Tabor can prescribe an oral sedative to make you feel groggy and relaxed. Take the pill prior to your dental visit and have a friend drive you to and from your appointment. You will retain the ability to respond to Dr. Tabor's instructions and questions, but you may fall asleep of your own accord. After your dental work, the sedative could linger for the rest of the day. Plan to stay home until the following morning.
IV Sedation – Dr. Tabor earned certification to administer intravenous (IV) sedation from University of Alabama, Birmingham. With IV sedation, he can control your level of consciousness. Light (twilight) sedation is possible, or you can be "put to sleep" under a heavier dosage. Plan to have a friend drive you home after your appointment. You will need to rest the remainder of the day.
